Bandini Street Elementary School

San Pedro, CA

2020

During the three-week read-a-thon students from Bandini Street Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 80,604 pages! A fourth grader, from Mr. Kimbel’s class, and a student from Mr. Hoffman’s class were the top readers in the entire school, both reading over 3,000 pages! Because of everyone’s hard work and effort, Bandini Bears, along with the Rosenthal Family Foundation, were able to donate 35 copies of the bilingual edition of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle and 35 Jester & Pharley Dolls, in honor of Natalie Martinez, to Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, CA, for use with their young patients. Natalie had been a patient at Miller Children’s Hospital. Both Natalie and her mother, a kindergarten teacher at Bandini Street, so appreciated that the students and staff honored her in such a thoughtful way. “Thanks for helping to brighten the lives of many hospitalized children,” wrote Rita Goshert from Miller Children’s after receiving the Jester book and doll donation.
