Reading Makes A Difference™
Holmes Avenue Elementary School
Los Angeles, CA
2020
During the three-week read-a-thon students from Holmes Avenue Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 8,220 pages! A second grader, from Mr. Rodriguez’s class, and a third grader from Mr. Jimenez’s class were the top readers in the entire school, both reading over 1,000 pages! Because of everyone’s hard work and effort, Holmes Cougars, along with the Joseph Drown Foundation, were able to donate 30 copies of the bilingual edition of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle and 30 Jester & Pharley Dolls, to the Los Angeles Police Department. On behalf of the LAPD, Officers Steve Rodriguez and Ralph Rodriguez participated in the read-a-thon recognition assembly and along with Officers Pablo Soto and Lizette Triana accepted the Jester book and doll donation. They, as well as Holmes Principal Baez, were all so proud and gave everyone involved a huge thank you!
