Nevada Lions Roar as Leo the Lion Cheers

In their third Jester Reading Makes A Difference Read-A-Thon, four Nevada Avenue Elementary students in West Hills, CA, took top prizes for the second year in a row. Proud parents, teachers and students applauded their reading prowess loudly as their mascot Leo the Lion roared congratulations.

Honored to hand out top reader certificates and special prizes to classroom finalist and top readers was Child Life Specialist Morinsola Keshinro of Northridge Hospital Medical Center. The Northridge hospital was the recipient of Jester book and Jester & Pharley Dolls generated by student participation in the read-a-thon.

Students read a total of 47,915 pages in three weeks. The top-reading classroom was Camila Adame’s fourth-grade class, which read 7,705 pages.

The school’s top reader was third grader Clifford Pennington in Jessica Hernandez’s class. Clifford proudly accepted the award for reading 4,760 pages.

“We’re very proud of all our dedicated readers,” said Principal Sarah Bobertz.
