Reading Makes A Difference™
Oak View Elementary School
Huntington Beach, CA
2020
During the three-week read-a-thon students from Oak View Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 60,585 pages! A third grader, from Ms. Shikuma’s class, was the top reader in the entire school, reading 2,967 pages. Because of everyone’s hard work and effort, Oak View Owls, along with the Orange County Community Foundation, were able to donate 100 copies of the bilingual edition of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle to the Family Resource Center’s Gifting Library at CHOC Children’s in Orange, CA. “Each day a child in the hospital can select one book from the library to keep and take home,” wrote Rose Ovalle, coordinator of the gifting library. She went on to say, “You are helping us with our mission to promote early literacy. We appreciate and thank you for all your hard work at Oak View School to make this donation possible!”
