2020

During Vermont Avenue’s sixth read-a-thon students kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 151,023 pages! A fifth grader, from Ms. Baker’s class, was the top reader in the entire school, reading 16,569 pages. Because of everyone’s hard work and effort, Vermont Tigers, along with USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign, were able to donate 36 copies of the bilingual edition of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle and 36 accompanying Jester & Pharley Dolls to Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) in Los Angeles. Mary Beth Perrine, Senior Director of Development & Outreach and Michael Willis, Manager of Volunteer Services from OIC attended the recognition assembly and helped hand out student top reader prizes. When accepting the Jester book and doll donation, Ms. Perrine told the excited Vermont students: “While our patients are receiving the care they need, with your donation of books and dolls they will also receive a wonderful message…that ‘Reading Makes a Difference’ in their lives.”

2019

During the three week read-a-thon students from Vermont Avenue Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 176,416 pages. The school, along with USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign, was able to donate 28 copies of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle/El Bufón ha perdido su gracia and 28 Jester & Pharley Dolls to Orthopaedic Institute for Children in Los Angeles for use with their young patients.

2018

During the three week read-a-thon students from Vermont Avenue Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 235,462 pages. The school, along with USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign, was able to donate 28 copies of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle/El Bufón ha perdido su gracia and 28 Jester & Pharley Dolls to Orthopaedic Institute for Children in Los Angeles for use with their young patients.

2017

During the three week read-a-thon students from Vermont Avenue Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 244,550 pages. The school, along with USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign, was able to donate 30 copies of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle/El Bufón ha perdido su gracia and 30 Jester & Pharley Dolls to the trauma department at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for use with their young patients.

2015

During the three week read-a-thon students from Vermont Avenue Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 192,201 pages. The school, along with USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign, was able to donate 30 copies of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle/El Bufón ha perdido su gracia and 30 Jester & Pharley Dolls to the trauma department at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for use with their young patients.

2014

During the three week read-a-thon students from Vermont Avenue Elementary School kept journals to document their reading. Altogether they read 222,558 pages. The school, along with USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign, was able to donate 35 copies of The Jester Has Lost His Jingle/El Bufón ha perdido su gracia and 35 Jester & Pharley Dolls to Shriners Hospitals for Children Los Angeles for use with their young patients.
