December 2017 – Members of Lunada Bay Cub Scout Pack 276 take the Cub Scout oath – “To help other people at all times” – very seriously.

Lunada Bay Cub Scouts in Palos Verdes Estates, CA, hold up Jester books to be donated to hospitalized children as a result of their promise to help others.

The Palos Verdes Estates, CA-based Cubs put in hour after hour to help ill children find their smiles with The Jester Has Lost His Jingle, written and illustrated by David Saltzman. Partnering with The Jester & Pharley Phund to bring joy to hospitalized children during the holiday season, they gave up many weekends to introduce The Jester to shoppers at local markets. For every copy of The Jester sold by Lunada Bay Cub Scouts, The Phund will donate another to a hospitalized child.

“Our young Cub Scouts are so excited to be working with The Jester & Pharley Phund on this project to help ill children,” said Pack leader James Lowenstein of Palos Verdes Estates, CA. “This has been such a rewarding project and is not difficult to do at all. It’s been a pleasure to include it with all our other community-service projects.”

“I’d love to see Scouts across the country do what we have done to help ill children in their neighborhoods,” Lowenstein added. “We have received the nicest comments from everyone we’ve met. Many who already had the book decided to make a contribution to the project so we could give more Jester books to more children in the hospital.”

Cub Patrick Lowenstein joined Phund President Barbara Saltzman on KABC-TV News to talk about the Cubs’ commitment. “It makes me happy to help children in the hospital,” he said. (To see Barbara and Patrick on KABC-TV News, please go to the TV and Video section)
